Come to the 2021 Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ
The 2021 Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ is tentatively scheduled to take place Friday April 30 to Sunday May 2 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in downtown Langley, BC. There are nine different Chili and BBQ categories that teams or individuals can compete in.
Anyone Can Compete in the Canadian Festival of Chili and BBQ
You do not have to be a professional chef or BBQ expert to enter the Festival, or to win the cash and prizes! Every year newbie cooks take home the glitter and glory and we think thats the best! Winners in many of our festival categories will qualify to compete in renowned chili, grilling and BBQ competitions in the United States and beyond that offer even larger cash prizes. Our entry fees are the lowest in competition BBQ. Many of our competitors started their competition journey with our contest (including myself) and we are also proud to have a chili cook who cooked at the inaugural event in 1985. We love you Lynne!
Public Can Watch Teams Create Starting at 10am
The public is welcome to come onsite Saturday and Sunday starting at 10am to watch teams cook and prepare their entries for judging. Our BBQ competitors come from across Canada, the United States and beyond. Turn in times for judging of each category vary and are staggered over three days of competition. The public are greeted onsite by our firefighter volunteers and their families and for a donation to the Burn Fund of $5 at minimum you will receive a sample of Firehouse Chili and a bun on Saturday or a Pumper Pulled Pork bunwich on Sunday. You will also be given a firefighters sampling wristband on either day which our teams recognize and will offer competition samples after each turnin for judging if they are available. Competitors samples ARE LIMITED AND NOT GUARANTEED!
IF TEAM SAMPLES ARE AVAILABLE, YOU NEED A WRISTBAND
All money raised is donated to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund
Over $60,000 has been donated to date!
Certified Chili and BBQ Judges Oversee Festival Competitions
Final BBQ turnins are graded by trained and certified judges using the rules of their association:
- Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI)
- Pacific Northwest BBQ Association (PNWBA)
- Steak Cookoff Association (SCA)
- World Food Championships (WFC)
If you love chili, perhaps you would like to volunteer to judge at our festival. We offer training and welcome new faces! Classes for BBQ and Steak judging are put on through their respective associations, -check the links! Even if you are unable to get into a judging class you can still likely volunteer in the judges tent to get a birds eye view of the process and probably a few samples as well.
Volunteers are integral to the success of our event – if you are not interested volunteers are needed in many ways at The Festival.
